Overall, the story is a viable adaptation

A more experienced actor could have delivered a more believable double/adversary needed to challenge the Jackal. The character development works, although some things are left open in the main characters’ narratives, but that may be to be desired. The locations, the varied interactions, and the way Redmayne uses language and changes characters really add a special layer to the story arc.

If that happens, the second season could be quite promising

The deception barometer is on all the time in the background. I can’t wait to see how the first season ends and how the quality is maintained or improved in the second. Hopefully Lynch will loosen up, be less forced, and give a more nuanced performance to try to live up to Redmayne’s standards.
